History Of Sensei Gabriel Mingo
Sensei Gabriel Mingo a 1st degree black belt in the Universal Shorei Goju System of Karate and is currently an instructor at the Keijo Martial Arts Academy. He became interested in karate at the age of five like most kids by watching Bruce Lee movies and the African American karate movie "The Last Dragon,1985" starring the African American actor and martial artist Taimak Guarriello. The movies eventually inspired Gabriel to start taking karate lessons at the age of six because he wanted to be like the actors that he saw on television. What he saw at an early age lead him down the path to become a formidable and proficient opponent in the martial arts. He has been in the industry for over twenty years.
Sensei Mingo is not only a formidable opponent within the martial arts but he is also an exceptional instructor. He is tenacious and obstinate when it comes to instructing a class. He adheres to only the highest quality of instruction. He is constantly striving to perfect his craft and style of teaching. Sensei Mingo has been teaching martial arts for as long as he can remember. He has not only studied The Universal Shorei Goju System of Karate, but he has also sought to become knowledgeable in other types of martial arts, such as Jujitsu, Jeet Kune Do and Hapkido. It is because of his knowledge and practices of several different martial arts is what makes him a diverse martial artist and because of this he is able to successfully dominate, control and subdue an opponent's aggressive behavior towards him whether it is in a competition or on the streets.
His opponents are often fooled by what appears to be his limited stature. His opponent's think that because of his limited stature that they will have an instant victory over him in competition. But they are then quickly left in amazement by his gazelle like speed, cat like agility, phenomenal strength and the swiftness and deadly accuracy at which he delivers every strike and blow. His abilities have allowed him participate in several tournaments in which he has won a number of trophies, titles and awards.
Sensei Mingo has always been an intense competitor and he always strives to give one hundred and ten percent in everything that he does. But, it is his love for the martial arts that drives him to want to instruct as many individuals as he can about the art and about physical fitness becoming a lifestyle. Sensei Mingo uses his instructing of the martial arts to destroy any false ideals that individuals may have about physical fitness, health and the martial arts. He wants to inform people that in order to achieve ultimate success in life you must have ultimate health-physically, mentally and spiritually. He believes, "There are certain applications of psychological principles that are structured around what you do with your body, and not just what you have learned with your mind. Each physical art developed in my life has helped me to gain a natural chemistry between my body and my mind. Each of these processes allowed my unprocessed assertiveness to emerge which has allowed me to become the man that I am today."
Sensei Mingo is not one to be reckoned with neither in the martial arts arena, nor in the academic arena as well. He currently holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Fraud and Investigation. He has future plans of obtaining a Master's Degree in Social Work and Inner City Studies
